Harras Teases Cyborg Superman’s New 52 Debut

As DC Comics continues to develop the DC Universe in the expanse of the New 52, more new designs for familiar characters have hit the web. The latest reveal on DC’s blog, The Source, is “Superman” artist Kenneth Rocafort’s design for Cyborg Superman.

“Some of you might remember the last time a Cyborg Superman showed up. Would we dare revisit such a classic storyline?” DC Comics Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras said via The Source. “Well, never say never, right? As I’ve been telling you, all bets are off. Everything’s on the table.”

Pre-“Flashpoint,” Cyborg Superman emerged following the “Death of Superman” storyline with the consciousness of Hank Henshaw as an enemy of the Superman family. He served as the Manhunters’ Grandmaster during Geoff Johns’ “Green Lantern” run, eventually joining the Sinestro Corps and becoming a key part of the “Reign of Doomsday” crossover in 2011. Hank Henshaw currently has a New 52 persona, having shown up as a colleague of Caitlin Fairchild.

There were no other details given on how Cyborg Superman will be used in the New 52, and there are a vast number of Superman-related books in which it could be featured. Rocafort’s involvement in the design seems to imply the robot will show up in “Superman,” but it’s impossible to know for certain.
