DC Comics Explains What is Continuity in DK’s Superman The Ultimate Guide to …

In the recent DK publication Superman The Ultimate Guide to the Man of Steel, DC Entertainment peppers the book with a lot of New 52 elements, but at the same time honoring the past.

In one section, there is an attempt to explain “What is ‘Continuity’?” That section opens with the below preamble to the right which is short, sweet, and to the point. While in the effort to address the continuity question, in the same way they have since September 2011 namely that you didn’t have to read any DC before that time to understand the New 52, the DK explanation gives short shrift to the pre-New 52 continuities, DC’s several Crises, and by extension DC’s extensive graphic novels catalogue that are still on sale.

After the continuity preamble, the two-page spread cites New 52 happenings for the Man of Steel. In the new continuity, the first chronologically notable moment involves the Clone Revolt on Krypton led by Kon. This history was recently revealed in the recent H’el on Earth cross-over between the core Superman titles with the Superboy and Supergirl titles.

Did anyone pick up this tome? How do you think it balanced honoring the past of super-hero comicdom’s founding father and priming interest in the current New 52 line?

Thanks for reading. All feedback welcome.
