Did Dwayne Johnson confirmed he is in talks to join the growing cast of DC’s Batman vs. Superman sequel to Man of Steel?
“The Rock” revealed on Twitter that he is in discussions with Warner Bros. to “create the cool bad assery,” but explained little else, giving the Johnson rumors an extra spark.
“We just had a big meeting w/ Warner Bros CEO re: @DCComics 2014 we will partner up and create the cool bad assery. #RockTalk @ActionTilson,” Johnson tweeted Tuesday.

So where could Johnson fit into the film? Rumors range from Lex Luthor to Bizarro to Black Adam to Lobo. It also suggests he could either be starring in Batman vs. Superman or possibly in another DC project altogether.
Earlier this year, Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston was heavily rumored as the film’s Lex Luthor, however no official announcement ever came from Warner Bros., leading many to believe the report was false. However, the rumor has now sparked up again, this time via social media. AMC Movie News Editor-In-Chief John Campea recently tweeted the Cranston as Luthor possibility may not be dead:
“NOT A SCOOP – for what it’s worth I’ve now heard from 2 sources who Lex Luthor will be played by in Batman vs Superman. Take this with a giant grain of salt because I’ve never heard news from either of these sources before and I’m not sure I buy it…. But… What I’ve been told by both sources is that although it wasn’t true before when it was rumored a few months ago… Is that it’s not Phoenix, but Bryan Cranston. Again, not sure I buy it, but 2 sources claim Cranston is Lex Luthor. 2 untested sources…”
Denzel Washington has also recently been tied to the film for the role of the John Stewart version of the Green Lantern, according to Nuke The Fridge:
“According to our source, the Training Day actor is being considered for the role of Green Lantern John Stewart. If this proves to be true, Green Lantern will join an ever growing list of members from DC’s Justice League of America that also include Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.'”
Ryan Reynolds played the Hal Jordan version of the character in the Green Lantern film, but Comic Book reports that speculation points to MOS2 filmmakers leaning toward the Stewart version this time around.
It was recently reported by Variety that Warner Bros. is interested in Joaquin Phoenix for a role in the film, with speculation also pointing to Luthor.
Casting for the film is in the very early process and it is unclear whether Phoenix would even want to take on a big-budget film, which he has avoided in recent years, according to the report. The 39-year-old actor is also considering joining Gus Van Sant’s film, Sea of Trees, according to Variety, which could create a scheduling conflict.
Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa is also in talks to join the film’s cast, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter. Israeli actress and model Gal Godot was cast recently in the role of Wonder Woman.
It is unclear which character Momoa is in talks to play since details on the film are sparse, but speculation points to Doomsday, who famously killed Superman in the comics. Rumors stem from a sighting of the character in the extras of the Man of Steel Blu-ray.
However, a source told the Hollywood Reporter that if Warner Bros. is looking to fill the film with Justice League members, Momoa could be cast as the Martian Manhunter, an alien with super-powers stuck on Earth.
The muscular Momoa would be an ideal fit for either role. His resumé includes roles as barbarian leader Khal Drogo in season one of Game of Thrones and as Conan in 2011’s Conan The Barbarian. He is also set to appear in several upcoming indie films, including Wolves, a werewolf action movie.
Batman vs. Superman is slated to hit theaters July 17, 2015.
