Shazam will be set in the DC Cinematic Universe, which covers the storylines of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.
This was recently confirmed by DC Comics via its blog, and fans everywhere are now overjoyed.
“Yes, there were rumors of some sort of film slate, mentions that Warner Bros. had ‘big plans’ for DC Entertainment and occasional informal announcements (like the news that New Line had a Shazam movie in development),” reported the DC blog. “But for fans who were hoping to see a DC Cinematic Universe similar to what they’ve seen from other publishers, one that included super heroes other than Superman or Batman, there didn’t seem to be a lot to talk about.”
If DC and Warner Bros. had chosen to make Shazam independent from the cinematic universe, it probably wouldn’t have turned out in the worse possible manner should the director do a great job. Still, it is great to know that all movies announced will be set in the same universe, and that can only mean great things for DC fans.
With the character Shazam being so similar to Superman, we have to wonder if DC would ever make him a central aspect of the Justice League. We suspect DC will follow the trend set by The New 52, so Shazam being part of the Justice League should be viewed as a must.
Now, we can’t just throw aside what Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had to say about the movie, and his statement that claimed Shazam was independent.
From this, we conclude that Shazam, while set in the DC Cinematic Universe, would most likely be a separate movie from everything else. Think of it as DC’s version of Guardians of the Galaxy, a movie that is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but probably won’t cross paths with the Avengers anytime soon.
For now, not much is known about Shazam apart from Dwayne Johnson playing Black Adam. No one knows which actor would walk in the shoes of Shazam himself, but that’s not an issue since the film is far from ready.
