Really Clever Batman v Superman Easter Egg Confirmed

Ever since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released, fans have found all sorts of easter eggs – and now it looks like someone has found a very clever homage.

Recently, a Twitter user posted a photo of what he believed was a subtle nod at Superman’s co-creator, Joe Shuester. In one of the film’s scenes, @mas_critical noticed a window that had been broken, leaving behind a gaping hole that looks a bit like the Canadian province of Ontario.

Sharing the image, the user’s post eventually made its way to Clay Enos who confirmed the easter egg. A close friend of Zack Snyder, Enos responded on Twitter and said, “I just showed this to Zack and he said, #finally someone noticed.” Enos, who worked as a photographer on Batman v Superman, has now green-lit yet another unseen easter egg to expand the film’s extensive list.

If you’re unsure why Snyder chose Ontario of all things to honor the Man of Steel’s co-creator, then you should know that Joe Shuster was born in Toronto in 1914. The artist moved to America in 1924 where he met Jerry Siegel, a writer and would-be collaborator. The pair then got their start in comics, leading them to create Superman as World War II reared its violent head.

Of course, this isn’t the only easter egg present in Batman v Superman though it may be one of the most obscure. Another teaser in the film directly nods to the creation of Superman when Perry White schools Clark Kent on the publishing industry. Speaking about newspaper sales, White reminds Krypton’s ex-pat that issues don’t cost a penny because “it’s not 1938 anymore!” That year, of course, is when Action Comics introduced Superman to the public.

The film also included plenty of easter eggs about Darkseid, Injustice: Gods Among Us, KGBeast, and Jimmy Olsen. And, earlier this year, an eagle-eyed fan spotted another small nod to another famous Batman character, Barbara Gordon. The Reddit user noticed one of the Batcave’s computers was hooked up to the ‘Oracle Network.’ Many fans will find this name to be a familiar one as Barbara assumed the super-hacker moniker Oracle after she was paralyzed in Batman: The Killing Joke.

If you want to take a look at some of the film’s other easter eggs, then look no further! Comicbook.com’s own Russ Burlingame has cut together a slideshow collecting over 50 of Batman v Superman’s best homages.
