Production is under way on The CW’s Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds, with fans getting a big hint at potential story lines with photos from the Vancouver set that showcase Tyler Hoechlin in a black Superman suit.

The black Superman suit first appeared in The Death of Superman comics, which the Man of Steel wore to replenish his powers after being incapacitated by the villainous Doomsday.

The emergence of this black suit could mean that Superman may die either before, or during this three-night crossover event, and be resurrected with the help of this suit, or it could hint at an ‘evil Superman,’ as some have suggested.

Hoechlin, 31, was spotted holding a large ancient book, reading off magical spells and appearing to be reveling in the chaos he’s creating.

The crossover’s name, Elseworlds, comes from an imprint of DC Comics that tells stories outside of the primary DC Comics canon.

This has lead some outlets like ComicBook.com to suggest this is actually an ‘evil’ version of Superman, and not a resurrected Man of Steel.

The CW confirmed in August that Ruby Rose is playing Kate Kane, a.k.a. Batwoman, who will make her debut in the crossover before getting her own stand-alone series in 2019.

The crossover will take place in Gotham City, and air over three nights, starting with The Flash on Sunday, December 9, continuing with Arrow Monday, December 10 and concluding with Supergirl on Tuesday, December 11.

The CW’s other two DC Comics superhero shows, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning, will not be part of the crossover.

Ironically, Hoechlin was spotted wearing his blue and red Superman suit on Friday, seen alongside some of his co-stars who were wearing much different costumes as well.

The actor was spotted alongside Stephen Amell (Arrow) and Grant Gustin (The Flash), but surprisingly, Amell was wearing The Flash costume and Gustin was suited up as Arrow.

Melissa Benoist was also spotted on set as Supergirl, in her traditional costume.
